How does this checker count?
- Physical presence: you need at least 913 days in the U.S. in the 5 years before filing, or 548 days in the 3 years on the marriage path. The day you leave and the day you return count as days in the U.S.
- Continuous residence: a trip of more than 6 months but less than 1 year may break it, and you'd need to show you kept your residence. A trip of 1 year or more generally breaks it.
- Trip length: the checker measures each trip as the calendar days between the two dates, and marks trips within 7 days of the 6-month limit. USCIS doesn't say how it counts travel days for these limits, so this is a careful estimate.
- Form N-400 lists trips from the last 5 years, or 3 on the marriage path, newest first. It leaves out trips completed within 24 hours.
